Development of a Vegetable Industry strategic plan
Rationale
The Taking Stock report identified the need for improved communication and collaboration across the supply chain. However, these are not ends in themselves, and require purpose and commitment to shared benefits. The development of a shared strategic plan can outline these shared benefits and act as a focus point for jointly strengthening the Australian Vegetable Industry.
Outcomes
This Foundation Project provides a context for addressing all other recommendations. The expected outcomes of a Vegetable Industry Strategic Plan include:
- Shared aspirations for the future of the vegetable industry.
- Agreed priorities for future investment to develop the industry.
- Specific targets, milestones and responsibilities identified.
- Alignment of the plans and activities of industry organizations.
Challenge
- Achievement of a cohesive and coordinated national approach to facilitate industry growth.
- Attaining cross-industry ownership of the plan and commitment to investing in it.
Status
The AVID Group has commissioned the consulting firm Kiri-ganai Research Pty Ltd to consult with industry stakeholders and formulate the Australian Vegetable Industry Strategic Plan. The project builds on the research and consultation with over 160 stakeholders and in 2005 as part of the Industry Partnership Project to take stock and set directions.
An initial draft of the plan was presented at the National Vegetable Industry Conference in Brisbane in May 2006. Series of workshops were held in association with the conference to assist in further refining the ideas and proposed strategies.
The project was completed in August 2006 and the Industry Strategic Plan was launched on 13 September 2006.
