Rationale
The Taking Stock report identified the lack of good data and feedback mechanisms to inform comparisons of Australian and overseas market and production situations. As a result, many claims about Australian production competitiveness are based on anecdotal evidence. Good market intelligence and knowledge of competitor’s practices are fundamental to improving Australian production systems and competitiveness.
Outcomes
The expected outcomes of a global comparison study include:
- Wide industry awareness and understanding of the successful attributes of key competitor countries (strategies, structures, programs, costs etc).
- Application of commercially valuable global information at industry and enterprise levels to improve competitiveness.
- Enhanced capacity to adapt to changing global markets through established mechanisms for ongoing data collection, monitoring and analysis and dissemination.
